The Cherry Blossom Festival in Meghalaya is an annual cultural celebration centered around the unique autumn bloom of Himalayan cherry blossoms (Prunus cerasoides) in Shillong. Started in 2016, it combines the natural spectacle of pink and white blossoms with a large-scale music festival, showcasing international and local artists, alongside traditional Khasi cultural performances. The festival also features local cuisine, arts and crafts, fashion shows, and a 'Japanese Village' reflecting cultural ties. It transforms Shillong into a vibrant hub, attracting nature lovers, music enthusiasts, cultural explorers, and foodies to experience Meghalaya's distinct blend of tradition and modernity. The main events typically span 2-3 days across venues like Ward's Lake, Polo Grounds, and Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium.

Travel Tips
Book accommodation in Shillong several months in advance, as hotels and guesthouses fill up quickly and prices surge during the festival period.
The nearest major airport and railway station is in Guwahati, Assam. From there, take a taxi or shared cab for the 3-4 hour scenic road journey to Shillong. Expect slow-moving traffic within Shillong during the festival.
Carry warm clothing, especially for evenings, as November in Shillong can be chilly (around 10°C or lower). An umbrella or raincoat is also recommended for occasional rain.
Be aware that the primary cherry blossom viewing areas like Ward's Lake and the main concert venues (e.g., Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium) are often in different parts of the city, requiring local transport to navigate.
Restrictions
Entry to the main music concerts and festival areas is ticketed. It is advisable to purchase tickets online well in advance, as they often sell out due to high demand.
