Held at the Kisama Heritage Village near Kohima, it showcases Nagaland's unique indigenous customs, music, dances, and crafts. This festival aims to foster inter-tribal unity and preserve the rich Naga heritage, providing a platform for tribes to share their traditions and for visitors to experience them. It is ideal for cultural explorers, photographers, and anyone interested in indigenous traditions, offering insights into Naga way of life through traditional Morungs, cuisine, and performances. Travel Tips
Book your accommodation in Kohima or nearby Kigwema well in advance (3-4 months, or 8-10 weeks) as hotels and homestays fill up quickly due to high demand during the festival.
Arrive at Kisama Heritage Village by 8:00 AM to avoid heavy traffic between Kohima and Kisama, especially in the mornings, and to secure good seating for cultural performances.
Carry sufficient cash in small denominations, as UPI or card payments may not be universally accepted at all stalls or in remote areas.
Pack warm clothing, including layers, as December nights in Nagaland can be chilly, with temperatures dropping to 5-15°C.
Always seek permission before photographing people, especially during rituals or inside Morungs, to respect local customs and privacy.
Restrictions
Indian citizens require an Inner Line Permit (ILP) to enter Nagaland, which can be applied for online via the Government of Nagaland website or at designated offices in major cities. Foreign nationals need a valid Indian visa and are advised to register at the local Foreigners Registration Office (FRO) if staying in remote areas.
