The International Flower Festival in Sikkim is an annual month-long event held in Gangtok, celebrating the state's rich floral biodiversity and promoting horticulture. The core of the festival is a grand exhibition at the Flower Exhibition Centre, showcasing hundreds of species of indigenous Himalayan flora, notably over 600 types of orchids and 30-46 varieties of rhododendrons. Beyond the flower displays, the festival integrates local Sikkimese culture through a food fair featuring regional delicacies, traditional music and dance performances, and workshops by botanists. It draws nature enthusiasts, horticulturists, and those interested in Sikkim's unique ecological heritage, offering a blend of natural beauty and cultural immersion. The event is a government initiative aimed at boosting tourism and acknowledging Sikkim as a vital biodiversity hotspot.

Travel Tips
May is peak tourist season in Sikkim. Book accommodations in Gangtok at least 2-3 months in advance, as hotels, especially mid-range options, can sell out quickly and prices may be higher due to demand.
The nearest airport is Bagdogra (IXB) in West Bengal (approx. 124 km from Gangtok), and the nearest major railway station is New Jalpaiguri (NJP) also in West Bengal (approx. 148 km). Plan for road travel from these points; shared taxis are a common and economical option.
While the festival is in Gangtok, travel to North Sikkim or other restricted areas might require Inner Line Permits (ILP) for Indian nationals and Protected Area Permits (PAP) for foreign nationals. Check requirements before planning excursions outside Gangtok.
Restrictions
An entry fee of approximately ₹20 per person is required to access the Flower Exhibition Centre.
